Sumner beach provides good opportunities for sunrise photos from autumn through to spring as the sun rises from a more northern location. There is a little hill that can provide some interesting foreground.

Photography Tips

Use a tripod for any shooting in low light and under expose a sunrise/sunset by at least a stop to bring out the colors in the sky.
Don't forget to think about your foreground.
Sunrise/sunset photography is a very hot and miss. Expect to return a number of times to find some color in the sky.
