New Zealand Views from Mount Victoria, Devonport
Mount Victoria sits above Devonport, a village with good restaurants, bars and art galleries. It offers great views of downtown Auckland across the harbour. Looking the other way, you can see Rangitoto Island, an extinct volcano. The grassy hill takes you up the top of a water pumping station where the vents have been painted as toadstools.
Photography Tips
Give yourself plenty of time and a tripod. After a few hours in a local bar or restaurant, go back and try a few night shots.
Travel Information
Trust Google Maps. The entrance road up to the small parking area is not well signposted. If you’re driving, there is not a lot of parking, about 4 cars. If you took the ferry across to Devonport from downtown Auckland, I’d suggest a taxi, for the ride there, at least.
