New Zealand Sealy Tarns, Mount Cook National Park
The Sealy Tarns is a small mountain lake on the Mueller Ridge at an altitude of about 1300 meters. From there, you have great views towards Mount Cook in the North, overlooking Mueller and Hooker Glaciers, as well as eastwards to Mount Cook Village and beyond.
Photography Tips
The best time is well before or well after noon, as during the middle of the day the sun will be to the North. Plan carefully which equipment you want to take and don’t carry too much – the way down is steep with plenty of stairs.
Travel Information
You can either walk from Mount Cook Village or the car park at White Horse Hill Camping Area. The track to the Sealy Tarns is well marked. The return trip takes about 3 1/2 hours. You can also walk towards Mueller Hut beyond the Sealy Tarns and stay there for the night.
