New Zealand Red Tarns
This is the third of some great hikes in Mount Cook Park; it may be my favorite. It is only 300m elevation gain but all steps and somewhat of a steep incline so you will pay for this in sweat BUT it is well worth it. The views are incredible. There are several viewpoints but I chose one reflecting on the tarns.
Photography Tips
The site is popular so expect people. I would try for a sunset shot which will sidelight the mountain beautifully. Don't forget your polarizer filter and leave enough time to get down before dark.
Travel Information
Travel along Lake Pukaki to Mount Cook Village and the site of the good sign posted to the south of town. Walk the trail after parking; the climb starts after crossing the bridge.
