New Zealand Rotorua Redwoods
The Rotorua Redwoods are part of the Whakarewarewa Forest next to the city of Rotorua on New Zealand’s North Island. Because of the nature of the soil, the trees here grow many times faster than in native California, where the trees originally come from. For this reason, despite their relatively young age, the trees are extremely large.
Photography Tips
The trees are very tall, so the canopy blocks a lot of light. Using a tripod may be advisable for this reason. The best time to visit the forest is on a cloudless day with lots of light. There are innumerable perspectives and compositions. Special lenses are not necessary.
Travel Information
The forest has a large-scale parking lot with enough space for cars and campers. The city of Rotorua is very close. Public toilets and a visitor centre are available.
