Water coming around a bend in the Clutha River hits against an underwater rock face, creating this extreme, permanent, whirlpool. The quiet, powerful motion isn’t so easy to capture in a still image but you might find the walk worthwhile.

The second time we passed through Wanaka, we wanted comfort rather than convenience, so we stayed at a B&B at Luggate, slightly away from the centre of Wanaka. The B&B proprietor suggested this place, which is within walking distance. There is an easy track from the end of a nearby road and this place is about 10-15 minute’s easy walk.
