This is a natural phenomenon that occurs when rainwater washes away hard-packed moraine material in the moraine ridge, but leaves behind pillars where large stones lie like umbrellas and protect the underlying masses from rain. In addition, the sun has helped to make the surface harder and more resistant, in the same way as with sun-dried clay. The tallest columns are around six meters and are estimated to be approx. 200 years old. The "priests" are drawn ever further up the valley side as the oldest fall over in the front while new ones are washed out by rainwater further up.
