95% of tour operators proposing to go to the mountain of 7 colors, will impose you on arrival a breakfast under a big tent with the other tour operators. Forcing you to leave in a flock on the hike.
My advice: negotiate in Cusco with a tour operator only the transport to the mountain and NOT the food and guide service.
Not only do you not need a guide to do this trek that is easy to follow (despite the physical difficulty due to the altitude) but you will be alone in the world at the top of the mountain to enjoy the landscape before arrival of tourists. We had visited 3 or 4 agencies in Cusco before finding a tour operator who agreed to pick us up only for transportation.
