Portugal Storks of Faro
The roof of the Hotel Faro & Beach Club provides an excellent vantage point to observe storks nesting on a variety of man made structures. Storks are believed to bring good luck and fertility to the home over which it built its nest, whether that is true is debatable but it is a fact that the stork population has boomed. In the past the storks would fly south to Africa in the summer, and return to Europe at the end of the winter, however in the last 20 years white storks have begun to stay in Portugal all year round so they are a common sight. Their nests of sticks and grass are large, typically about one metre wide and a similar height, but over time they can grow much larger.
