Portugal Monsaraz
Monsaraz is a picturesque medieval village in southern Portugal, located in the Alentejo region, near the border with Spain. Perched on a hilltop, it offers stunning views of the surrounding Alqueva Reservoir and rolling countryside. Known for its narrow cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and historic castle, Monsaraz retains its charm with well-preserved architecture. The village is famous for its cultural heritage, including ancient megalithic monuments and traditional Alentejo cuisine. It's a popular destination for those seeking a quiet, authentic experience in rural Portugal.
Photography Tips
Take a tripod with you and shoot at golden hour for soft, warm light on the castle and buildings.
Travel Information
There are some narrow and steep lanes to negotiate, but once you get to the plateau at the top, it is easy to park. I was there in winter with no other people. In summer it might be busier.
