This photo was taken from the Miradouro Portas do Sol, not Santa Luzia.

Thank you for your comment. It is important to correct any errors. However, on this occasion I don't think you are right. Google Maps show both locations (Portas do Sol and Santa Luzia), with a photo from each location. The two views are taken looking in the same general direction and are very similar. However, there are some subtle differences, because of the slightly different angle the two viewpoints provide. For example, if you look at the photo taken from Portas do Sol, you will see that directly below the church in the centre of the photo are two dark rooftops, with a skylight in the nearer one. Now look at the photo taken from Santa Luzia and you will see that the two roofs are displaced quite a way to the left. In my photo, the two roofs are also displaced to the left, meaning that it is more like the Google photo from Santa Luzia than the one from Portas do Sol. Of course, Google might be wrong, but until someone can say definitively that this is the case, I stand by my identification of Santa Luzia as the viewpoint of my photo.

Hello David, and thankyou for your comment. Looking at Google maps it becomes a little difficult to judge which is which, because people post photos and it all starts to run together. The reason I believe your photo is taken from Portas do Sol, from the open platform, is because it is the exact same angle of photography where I took my photo from, and that was definitely Portas do Sol. The Santa Luzia lookout basically angles more to the south, towards the river and the cruise ships. The Sta Luzia viewpoint is a beautiful balcony with benches, azulejos and a roof. This is different from the open platform of PdS. Please have a look at this link on Wikipedia and tell me what you think: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miradouro_de_Santa_Luzia.

Hello Adelheid. You have convinced me! I don't recognize the Santa Luzia viewpoint from the Wikipedia photo, so I have to assume that we did not visit it! I think the Google photo allegedly from Santa Luzia must be, in fact, from Portas do Sol. This is what confused me. I shall try to change my posting (though I'm not sure how to do it - any suggestions?) Many thanks for your help. Best wishes, David

Hello Adelheid - As you will see, I have moved the spot to the Miradouro Portas do Sol and have changed the caption to the photo accordingly.

Hello David, good to see that that worked! I don't think I would have quite known how to achieve that. There actually a few more photos by others of this spot that have been wrongly named. Anyhow, it is a great spot, and if I am ever in Lisbon again, I will certainly make a stop there again. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Greetings Adelheid
