Portugal Miradouro do Cabo Girão
The Cabo Girão viewpoint, located on the highest promontory in Europe, at an altitude of 580 m, offers a breathtaking view of the Rancho and Cabo Girão fajãs – small areas of cultivated land at the foot of the cliff, as well as magnificent panoramic views over the ocean and the municipalities of Câmara de Lobos and Funchal.
The viewpoint was the subject of requalification works, with a suspended glass platform, called the skywalk, having been built.
It is a privileged place for paragliding and base-jumping. Recently, Portuguese parachutist Mário Pardo made a spectacular jump on a motorcycle from here.
Nearby is the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Fátima, built in 1951 and one of the main pilgrimage sites on the island.
