The Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) is a small interior chapel built within the Church of St Francis in Evora. The walls are lined with human skulls and bones.
A 16th century Franciscan monk wanted to convey the message that life is transitory. This is summed up by the warning over the entrance, "We bones that are here, for yours await."
