Portugal Cristo Rei da Ponta do Garajau
The main attraction at this point is the Cristo Rei statue, however, the site also offers a beautiful view of both the Caniço Coastline, a view towards Funchal as well as across the water towards Ilhas Desertas.
Photography Tips
The light is great here at both Sunrise and Sunset. Be prepared for the often unpredictable Madeira weather. Be careful around the statue, at least in 2023 it was being repaired and bits and pieces were crumbling off.
Travel Information
There are enough parking spaces, either follow the directions to Cristo Rei (signage can be found in parts of Caniço) or towards the Teleférico do Garajau. There's also a small cafe there, quite helpful if it suddenly starts raining again.
