This unique boat tour takes you to two small islands where gorillas live in their natural habitat. Departing at 8 AM, the 2-hour journey offers an incredible opportunity to watch the gorillas being fed and observe them up close. There’s plenty of time for photography before moving to the next island for another feeding session. On the way back, the boat slows down for wildlife sightings, such as hippos, allowing for stunning photo opportunities. An unforgettable experience for nature lovers and photographers alike.

Photography Tips

Bring different lenses, but definitely a 300mm + tele. Use a higher ISO (AI does the denoise properly) as well as higher shutter speed and be calm, when the animals will be fed. You will get pretty close to them (6-8m)

Travel Information

Camp Abio is accessible via a 14 km dirt track from the main highway. In dry conditions, a vehicle with good ground clearance might be enough, but as soon as it gets wet, the road becomes challenging. Steep inclines, deep sand and occasional mudholes can make the drive difficult, so a 4x4 is strongly recommended. For those without their own vehicle, a 4x4 taxi is available, departing from the main highway (-3.1245, 15.61908) at 6 AM. The ride takes about 1 hour (one way) and offers stunning views once you reach the hilltops.
Ask the Chief of the buildings here and he will arrange everything for you.
At the camp you need to wait for the boat to depart, which is around 8am. The whole boat tour takes about 2hours, costs r.a. 103€ for the whole trip, including a 4x4 taxi.
