Romania Biertan fortified church
Biertan is one of the most important Saxon villages with fortified churches in Transylvania, having been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1993. The Biertan fortified church was the see of the Lutheran Evangelical Bishop in Transylvania between 1572 and 1867.

Travel Information
The commune of Biertan is situated 90km from the city of Sibiu and 29km from Medias and is accessible via paved roads from two directions. Almost every village around the area has a smaller or larger fortified church in various stages of disrepair. There is a small road near the northern entrance of the village that takes you up to the spot, it is an easy walk.
