Russian Federation Port Baikal - Steam powered locomotive
Old steam powered locomotive on display in Port Baikal, a former station of the Transsiberian Railway, where trains were loaded onto ferry boats and thus conneted to the southern tracks of the Transsib. Phantastic spot if you love lost places.
Photography Tips
Wanted to photograph the locomotive with the milky way in the background, unfortunately the thing is lit like a shopping mile in a capital city at night, so things did not work out as I wanted. Nevertheless it is worth visiting, take a walk to the west along the tracks to find yourself in the year 1950 after five minutes
Travel Information
You can reach Port Baikal either by ferry boat from Listvjanka or by train from Sludjanka. No road is leading there. You can stay overnight in some quite decent rooms in the first floor of the railway station. Cheap and clean, possibility to take a shower. But take some food with you, there are some tiny shops which open for one hour a day only.
