From the Dzinaga border post to the glacier and back about 20 kilometers, maybe a little less, but this does not make it easier. Before you go on a trip, you need to drop into the border post and get permission and inform about your plans.
The route to the Karaugomsky glacier is very picturesque. The path winds along the river, then goes deep into the coniferous forest, then begins to abound in rocky climbs and descents. Without good shoes, there’s nothing to do and it’s better to take care of the shoes in advance.
The length of the tongue of the Karaugom glacier is 12.5 kilometers. This is the largest glacier of the Digorsky Gorge and the second largest glacier of the Caucasus. The lowest point of the glacier ends at an altitude of 1800 meters.
