Singapore Atlas Bar, Singapore
From the outside, the building is striking and the views from the front and the back are different enough to warrant your visiting both. The architect was James Adams, working closely with Singapore’s DP Architects and completed in 2002. The Atlas bar is on the ground floor and is rated among the world’s top bars. There can’t be more Art Deco spots anywhere, but it also has the biggest collection of Gins in the world (1000+) and a formidable range of Champagne.
The whole structure was built and is still owned by the Hwang family, who are well-known for their support of the arts. There would have to be a strong connection to the arts to explain this building (there is a museum on the third floor). The Singapore section of the Hwang property empire is managed by Vicky, the granddaughter of the man who built this building, and it is she who has made the building so accessible.
Make a point of trying the basic ATLAS Martini while you’re there, they’re excellent and the whole experience of a drink in this place is a joy.

Photography Tips
To try capturing the overall effect, take the widest lens you have.
Management is friendly but they don’t encourage people to wander around with DSLR cameras while there are guests present. I stayed in my seat and used a table tripod to good effect.
It’s possible to visit by prior appointment before they open. They charge a fee but they might be prepared to waive it if you show the receipt for a sizeable Bar and/or food bill (go with friends but there is a dress code after 5:00).
Only allowed camera phone photos when they are open. The interior is a difficult architectural shot.
