Slovenia Zelenci Nature Reserve
It's only 400m from the main road but once at this spot, it is heaven on earth and an oasis of beauty and silence. For those who ask me about the colour of the water per se, honest to God, I have done nothing about it. This is the colour. Zelenci in Slovenian means Green, hence the nickname The Emerald lake.
Photography Tips
If you arrive at the crack of dawn, bring a flashlight of some sort, it will be quite dark although the trail is visible and easy to walk. A tripod is necessary.
There is a watchtower at the side of the lake which you can climb on it is very difficult to put a tripod there but it is worth going up.
There is a boardwalk - a sort of a jetty - which makes a fabulous leading line (I hope to post in future a photo with the curving jetty.
Not only do the mountains produce a fascinating reflection, turn around and enjoy every second of the sunrise, but there is also a fabulous reflection of the shoots around the lake. There is no need for filters for the water, the lake is quite tranquil unless you wish to take it for the clouds.
