Spain Mirador del Balcón, Gran Canaria

This viewpoint is an incredible location on Gran Canaria, especially for sunsets. It is located high on the mountains, right next to a steep coastline. When the air is clear, you can see Tenerife.

The sun will set above the ocean from March until end of September. October to February, it will set behind the coast. Check Photopills or another app before you visit here to plan your shot.
The spot is very windy, so you need a good tripod. At the same time, the glass wall that frames the platform is pretty high, so you need a high tripod of at least 160 cm to bring your camera far enough above the wall, while keeping it as a wind shield. Bring graduated filters.

The parking spot has enough room for 5-6 cars. Come early to be on the safe side, especially during tourist season. You can reach this spot from the southern tourist area around Maspalomas in about one hour. Going back in the darkness is a hell of a ride though.
