It was designed by Sevillian architect Anival González as a meeting place for the Ibero-American Exposition in 1929. The Plaza is encircled around by a semi-circular complex of buildings. Around the plaza is a long canal that can be navigated by boat. On the walls, the individual provinces of Spain are represented by tiles.
