The Ribero Pintado is a fascinating geological formation of incredible shapes and colors in the Valle de los Redondos (La Pernía, Palencia).
It is a natural wall of striking colors, due to the alternating strata of sandstone (reddish and yellowish tones) and shales (darker, blacker colors). These strata were folded millions of years ago until they acquired an almost vertical position, and later they have been eroded by water through gullies, giving rise to their unique appearance of sheets with angular shapes.

The route to Ribero Pintado is currently unmarked, although it is a simple route, with hardly any difficulty. You can start in the same car park set up for the Senda de Fuente Cobre, in Santa María de Redondo, and then continue along the road that gave access to the old Montebismo mine, closed in 2004. Upon reaching the old mining facilities , a path borders them on the left and continues ascending through the bottom of the valley, until reaching a point where the valley opens up and a landscape of meadows appears dominated by Pico Tres Mares (2171 m). The path turns to the left and a few meters further on is Ribero Pintado.
