El Bufadero is a large sinkhole on the northeast coast of Gran Canaria that is filled by the waves when the water level is about 0.7-0.9 meters. If the tide is right, the hole sucks in the water and spits it out again, where its name comes from. The water runs over the edge and then drains away again. I have been there several times now and can give the water level as a guideline. It also depends on the wind. In addition, a fountain blows up several meters when the waves are strong.

I have made a video here to show how strong the waves are:

Photography Tips

It is very beautiful at sunrise. But please be careful, they say "Every seventh wave is deadly". A really high wave can come surprisingly and wet you. I have achieved very nice results with exposure times of about 0.4 seconds. Graduated filters should definitely be used and cleaning agents at the location should also be available in the backpack.
Pack your backpack a few meters away, preferably elevated.

I recommend going at dawn or dusk depending on the season. important to pay attention to the waves the spot can be dangerous.

Travel Information

Parking is possible only a few meters away in a large car park.
On the satellite image, a small path can be seen on the left. Go down this and then continue through the stones. The stones are not smooth but have a good grip, you don't need to be afraid of slipping.
Sturdy shoes are a must. If clothing is important, you might want to put on a rain jacket and rain pants.

The spot can be photographed all year round, but I think the sun is at its best at sunrise in spring and autumn.

Fantastic spot, technically not very allowed to go down to the Buffadero (at the moment?)...but everybody does anyways.
