At the beginning of the thirteenth century, during a battle against the Arabs, Captain Pelay Pérez Correa, Master of the Order of Santiago, when he saw that the night was coming and he did not get the victory, he implored the Virgin shouting: Holy Mary, stop your day!. And the tradition tells that the sun stopped on the horizon to allow the Christian troops victory. The master ordered the construction of a temple for Santa María de Tentudía.
