Sri Lanka Upper Gartmore Falls

This is the view across the vast Maussakelle Reservoir and surrounding tea hills from the top of Gartmore Falls near Maskeliya.

Take as wide a lens as you can (wider than 20mm) or be prepared to shoot panos, it's a huge view.

Getting here is fun, but an adventure! The Gartmore Estate is about 25 mins drive along the B273 from Maskeliya (the tarmac roads in this whole area are pretty bad compared to Sri Lanka in general).

Turn off onto the Estate Road and follow it until you reach where I have marked the parking spot. This is as far as you will be able to go by car (even 4WD).

At this point there are a few Tuktuk drivers stationed who will take you (for a fee) to either the Upper or Lower Falls (or both).

For the Upper Falls, the route goes through a village with tiny streets inaccesible by car. The Tuktuk will drop you off at the nearest point to the Upper Falls. From there it is about a 10 minute walk along the river to the final photo spot. Easy walk on flat path, no problem at all for all fitness levels.
