Sweden Särna Gammelkyrka, Old Church Särna
The Old-Church in Särna is built 1684. A beautiful old wooden church well worth visiting. Here are held church services and musical events during the summer.
Due to increased population, a larger chapel needed to be built in the village. When the village could not finance the work, Charles XI granted three years of tax exemption in 1682. Construction began in 1684 and the old chapel was demolished. The tower was added in 1706.
The church underwent major remodeling in 1766, giving it its present form. After the roof was destroyed by fire in 1856, Särna New Church was inaugurated in 1879, and the old one was abandoned. In 1953, the old church was renovated and has been used since then during the summer.
