Switzerland Fälensee

Pristine mountain landscape, very few tourists (mostly Swiss hikers & photographers). Stunning photograph potential.

This particular view is best shot with an ultra wide angle, or in my case a stitched panorama.

Train to Weissbad in the Appenzell region (approx 1 hour from St Gallen), then Postbus to Brülisau lower cable car station for Hoher Kasten. Then it's a hike of approx 90 mins to the lake. If coming by car, you can park close to the start of the hiking route at Hoher Kasten.

There is a Hostel at the lake called Berggasthaus Bollenwees, and they serve an excellent dinner too.

An alternative and far more exciting way to arrive is via the Stauberen cable car, which starts at Frümsen. By train I changed at Buchs and caught 2 buses to the cable car station (info can be obtained from https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de//bin/query.exe/en). From the summit of Stauberen, there's a magical hike across to the incredible Saxer Lücke, then straight down to the lake.
