You‘d expect the Seven Dwarfs to come around the corner up here anytime...
Legend has it that the farmers on Hirzel sold their souls to the devil in return for more land. The devil took the easy way out and just pushed the earth up from the inside. When the farmers realised the extra land was steep and of no great use, they felt cheated on and planted a Linden tree on top of every hill. With the Linden trees, being the „trees of love“, the devil would avoid the area in future.
It was glaciers forming the landscape up on Hirzel, the story is still kind of nice.

Photography Tips

Watch out for the countless farm dogs in the area...
The spot is located on a private lot - please stay on the prepared path so the farmers will keep allowing people to shoot.
Come early so you have enough time to find a composition that works. A tripod is always a good idea, wide angle works best.

Travel Information

From Neuheim or Menzingen. Better to walk (just over half an hour) as there aren‘t a lot of parking possibilities.
The farmers won't be your friend if you're going to park your car on their land. Please be respectful.

Keep in mind: This place has become very popular and being alone for sunset has become a rare thing.

It is a beautiful spot indeed! I've been there just recently. It seems that people aren't permitted to walk on these properties any longer (a couple of signs are placed around these hills). You better ask the closest farmers for an exclusive permission ;-)

Hi Roger, you've uploaded beautiful pictures, but you haven't written much about the spot. Maybe you can think of something else you could write in the columns below. For example, what equipment did you use, how did you get there, etc. More information will help the users. Kind regards, Mia

I've suggested the option of presenting EXIF data with every uploaded image. I know some people guard their EXIF, but for a great sharing site like this, they might agree to help others, so maybe sharing EXIF could be the default?

thanks Rajesh, sometimes you get rewarded for taking the pain (alarm clock and minus temperatures) :-) this was taken roughly half an hour before sunrise. you have to come in winter to get the pink glow
