Switzerland Medelserhütte - Graubünden, Switzerland
The hut in Fuorcla da Lavaz, at the back of Val Plattas, at 2524 metres above sea level, resembles an eagle's nest. The cliffs rise steeply next to the hut, but to the east and west the view is free to wander into infinity and spoil the visitor with fabulous sunsets.
Photography Tips
Less is more! Think of the quite arduous ascent! Nevertheless, I would take a standard zoom and a wide-angle lens with me. For dreamlike, dynamic cloud pictures of course a tripod and ND filters. Use an app like Photopills to find out the position of the sun.
Travel Information
The Medelserhütte is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). The hut is maintained in summer and partly also in winter. If the hut is unattended, a winter room is available, as on all huts of the SAC.
The shortest ascent is from the village of Curaglia on the Lukmanierpass. It takes about 3.5 hours from there.
The tour leads into the high mountains and is not a walk! Make sure you wear suitable clothes and especially good hiking boots (sneakers have no place in the mountains). Enough water and rain protection are required.
