A view away from the crowds :) Almost the classical view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, except it's not. This location shows you the church of Lauterbrunnen and the famous Staubbach waterfall.

Photography Tips

There's this saying: If you don't like the weather; wait five minutes and it will completely change. Well, that's certainly applicable here. This location is all about the waiting game on dreary days. Do not go here with crisp blue skies, because that image has been captured thousands of times. check the sunrise and sunset times, the weather... Oh and here's an afterthought: go here when the Milky Way rises above the end of the valley for a spectacular nightscape that will earn you prizes!

Tech and disclosure: This is two exposure from the same viewpoint and with the same settings. It's a time stack, meaning those exposures are taken some time apart. The first is taken 3 minutes later than the last to capture the valley in both misty conditions and rather clear conditions. I used the misty one as a base and the clear one to reveal the background mountains. Nothing too complicated here. The look and feel were borrowed from a screencap of the Lord of the Rings cinematography, specifically the Return of the King.

Travel Information

Wengen can't be reached by car. Instead, you need a solid pair of legs to make the 2-hour hike from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen. You can also take the train up to Wengen station and walk back to Lauterbrunnen from there. Along the way, there are excellent photo opportunities all around. Bring spare batteries!
Murren and Gimmelwald are awesome as well. From these villages you look down into the valley across at the mountain faces and up at the peaks...breathtaking stuff!!!

Save your energies and rent an e-bike for 50 Swiss francs a day to get to multiple spots quickly. Take a 2-3 day rental in Wengen and explore the paths along the hills. There are multiple spots near Wengen church down the hills towards Wengwald and up to the Hunnenflue observation point.
