The Gasterntal is a hidden gem in the Bernese Oberland. Deep behind Kandersteg lies the high valley with its wild beauty. With a bit of luck, you can spot chamois, ibex or even bearded vultures here.

In spring and autumn, it can take a long time for the sun to reach the valley. It's best to check beforehand with an app like PeakFinder.

Travel Information

From the end of the valley in Kandersteg (Sunnbüel cable car station) to this spot is a 10 km hike. You can also drive into the Gasterntal by car, but it is a very narrow road and may only be driven on at certain times. It is also subject to a charge. In the high season there is sometimes a small bus to the Gasterntal, but it is best to enquire at the tourist information centre beforehand.
