Switzerland Spitzkirche / Magdalenenkapelle

The Spitzkirche is a chapel standing on the Musikinsel (Music Island) in Rheinau, Switzerland.

Due to the fact that she is standing right at the river banks of the Rhine river and pointing onto, she is called "Spitzkirche" or Pointed Church .

The pointed church was built in 1587–1588 under Abbot Theobald Werlin von Greiffenberg. In 1761 a late Baroque grotto was built into the church choir. It was modeled on the Zwiefalten Monastery and was designed using various materials from Switzerland and Germany. The grotto was removed during the renovation in 1931. From the abolition of the monastery in 1862 and the opening of the cantonal sanatorium and nursing home in the monastery buildings in 1867, the Spitzkirche served the Reformed patients and, like the mountain church, was built from Marthalen. It was renovated in 1991–1992 and has served as a wedding and concert church ever since.An interior renovation took place in 2016, during which the paintings on the walls and vault were renovated and preserved.

Use both banks of the river to photograph the church with iths unique reflection. Especially during autum this is really a hidden gem.
