Year-round viewing platform at 3131 metres above sea level. Best view of the world-famous Matterhorn and 28 other four-thousand-metre peaks.

Photography Tips

Good opportunity to catch the sunset in wintertime, as the last train down in the village leaves at about 6:30 pm.

Bring a light tele lens such as a 70-200mm along with a classical wide-angle landscape lens.

Avoid lunchtime, since the light is too hard and the place is too crowded with tourists.

Great spot for Milkyway / night photography as well!

This shot really intrigues me.. Thanks you for you're information. I found out the train trip is REALLY!! expensive though the view and the shot you get out of it is worth it.. A ticket (return) is around CHF 110 (that is about 120 euro) and this is only the trip up to the "Gornergrat observatory".. Better (if you are going for a panorama type shot) is going to station "Riffelberg" (around 69 euro) or station "Rotenbodem" (83 euro) this is almost have the price and after a little walk you're view will be the same or better.. giving you a view of the "Matterhorn" and the glacier again thanks for you're information this is something will look at for next year..

We found the Swiss travel passes are good value, if you are visiting a few sights/ train trips across Switzerland, you buy the pass and trips are half price.
