A little peninsula in the southern part of Thailand, near to the famous Phuket, less commercial.two different beaches on both sides of the little peninsula, one side is mangrove swamp and the other side is white sands.
Surrounded by limestones hills ,only accessible by boat, making it very unique.
From what I’ve read on TripAdvisor I expected it to be less crowded but people have definitely caught on. It’s far more crowded than Ao Nang beach, and for good reason - the sand is much finer.

Photography Tips

Humidity is high in the cyclone seasons ( summer) ,always hot.tripod is needed to capture low lighting situation in the golden hours,ND filters to smooth out the sea. Polarizing filters as well
. Protect the legs of tripod from sea water and sands, rinse them off every time with fresh water. Cleaning your gears is essential after each day ,sea water sprays, sands ,etc.,

Travel Information

Railay beach is only accessible by long tail boat. Head to the southern part of Ao Nang beach and look for an official stall across the road. You won’t miss it because of the amount of boat drivers there, and you can definitely ask around if you’re unsure. The price in 2018 is 200 baht (~6usd) round trip and you need to wait until there’s at least 8 people headed there for a boat to leave. This took about two minutes for us.
The boat is parked about knee height in water and can be higher depending on your height and the time of day. If you choose to live on Railay beach you’ll need to haul your luggage onto the boat WWE style.
As far as i know no boats run officially at night, but you could probably get something arranged or talk to the people around they beach area.
