Ukraine Illinska Church

Subotiv (Ukrainian: Суботів) is a village (selo) in central Ukraine. It is located in the Chyhyryn Raion (district) of the Cherkasy Oblast (province), near Chyhyryn city.

Subotiv is the birthplace of the Ukrainian Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky.

Zynoviy Bohdan Khmelnytsky (Ukrainian: Богдан Зиновій Михайлович Хмельницький, romanized: Bohdan Zynoviy Mykhailovych Khmelnytsky; c. 1595 – 6 August 1657) was a Ukrainian Hetman of the Zaporozhian Host, then in the Polish Crown of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (now part of Ukraine).
He led an uprising against the Commonwealth and its magnates (1648–1654) that resulted in the creation of a state led by the Cossacks. In 1654, he concluded the Treaty of Pereyaslav with the Russian Tsardom and thus allied the state with Russia.

Illinska Church, a church built by the order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky in 1653. It is also the place where Khmelnytsky is buried. The church is pictured on one of the paintings by Taras Shevchenko in 1845. The church is also pictured on 5 hryvnia banknote, which is currently in circulation in Ukraine.

In fall church is beautiful. But many tourist and cars spoil it.

You can get to Subotov by bus from Chigirin or book an excursion "Chigirin - Subotov - Kholodny Yar". Also in Subotov it is worth visiting the Historical Museum, of which the Ilyinsky Church is a part. Opening hours: from 8:00 to 17:00 (Monday - Friday); from 9:00 to 15:00 (Saturday - Sunday).
