United Kingdom Corfe Castle, Dorset

  • Please log in or sign up for free to see the GPS coordinates & weather for this photo spot
Corfe Castle is named for the dramatic stone fortress that rises above the village Corfe. Burial mounds in the area show that Corfe Castle was settled as early as 6000 BCE. There was certainly a Roman presence here, but Corfe really rose in status under Alfred the Great, when that king built a castle here to deter Danish invaders.

Photography Tips

You wake up at 04:00 am and drive all the way to catch the first sunlight on this amazing castle but the sun refuses to come out. A bit overcast but still such gracious ruins.
Take a tripod for long exposure and some ND filters.
A 24-70mm is just perfect.

Travel Information

You can get here only by car - the narrow roads in Dorset do not provide paths for walkers and joggers and cycling is at your own risk :-)

The Car Park is indicated and there are signs for the castle.
