United Kingdom Loch Linnhe, Old Schoolhouse view

Loch Linnhe (Scottish Gaelic: An Linne Dhubh (the black pond), originally known as Loch Abar (Confluence Bay)) is a bay in the Highlands near the west coast of Scotland.

Loch Linnhe has a length of about 50 kilometres and a strongly varying, increasingly tapering width. At its southwestern end it opens into the Firth of Lorn. The city of Fort William lies at its northeastern end, where the river Lochy flows. West of Fort William Loch Linnhe turns into Loch Eil at the narrow The Narrows. At Ballachulish Loch Leven branches off from Linnhe in an easterly direction and leads to Kinlochleven for almost 20 km. On the border to Loch Laich, a bay on the south-eastern edge of Loch Linnhe, stands the picturesque Castle Stalker on a small tidal island.
