United Kingdom Cromwell's Bridge

Oliver Cromwell and around 8,600 men (The New Model Army), some on foot, some on horseback and some pulling heavy artillery, all crossed this little bridge on the way to fight at the Battle of Preston in 1648. Records exist of a packhorse bridge at this location as long ago as 1430.

Photography Tips

There is a small track on the north of the new bridge that gives you access to the packhorse bridge, that you can cross with care. I walked along the fence line and took the shot from under the new bridge (as it was raining when I was there).
