Easy to access, 5 min from the carpark. you can wild park in the car park in Stonehaven @ the docks, there is a toilet in the carpark but not open for 24 hours.
Photography Tips
The best side to shoot is from the side that I shot from (north I think) as you will have ground interest with the paths leading to the castle even if the light is not very decent.
You can shoot from the other side (across Old Hall Bay), but not as much foreground interest also the path is along the cliff edge with no rail and is rough, so if u have young kids or are unsteady on your feet better to give that side a miss.
