This old castle is settled on a cliff right at the drop into the ocean. It's one of the most beautiful castles in the very North of Scotland and its location is unique.

Photography Tips

You want to visit this location during high tide due to the ocean level which is quite low during low tide. The ocean does not reach the cliffs anymore and the entire scene would look different. Therefore make sure to check the timetables and also check for wind predictions since it looks nicer with waves rushing against the cliff. On the other hand, you don't want it too windy, otherwise, you canĀ“t fly your drone.

Travel Information

You will have to park at the nearby harbor and walk towards the castle. It an easy and even walk which can get muddy depending on the weather. Parking at the harbor was free when I visited in 2021.
