It's always great to have ND filters, a polarized and a tripod with you at a spot like that, allowing you to get longer exposures and soften the waves of the North Sea if this fits into your imagined photo. The pier has a lot of leading lines you can use and there are quite a few wooden poles or dunes you can use as a foreground element.
