United Kingdom Giant's Causaway
The Giant's Causeway or Giant's Road is a natural rocky outcrop located on the northeast coast of Ireland about 3 km north of the town of Bushmills, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, consisting of about 40 000 basaltic columns of volcanic origin; the striking conformation of the rocks has inspired ancient legends about giants and titanic battles.
The Giant's Causeway was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986 recognizing its geological value and interest in the study of earth sciences; the coast on which the site lies has been a national nature reserve since 1987 managed by the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty.
