It is a small lake in the Lake District with a beautiful background of mountains.
Blea Tarn is one of the easiest to visit, with a convenient car park on the Little Langdale to Great Langdale road. It has a backdrop of the Langdale Pikes, at the heart of wild Lakeland.
This is a prevalent location at all times of day, particularly in the morning for sunrise so you should arrive early.

Photography Tips

This classic view is best photographed during sunrise but is excellent at all times of the day.

Check the weather for wind speeds of <5mph for best reflections on a calm lake.

Bring a tripod and polarising filters and try out neutral density filters ,.

The photographic opportunities in this area are endless.

Travel Information

Use postcode LA22 9PG for parking.

The access road is narrow and winding and untreated in the winter. Allow extra time when driving due to the lack of passing places and oncoming traffic which can slow you down.

There is a National Trust car park available (free for members) with coin-operated payment machines (approx £4 for 2 hours parking), a small walk of 5 minutes or less to get to the classic sunrise view.

Areas of the approach from the footpath from the car park can be boggy in winter so rubber boots or waterproof walking boots are recommended.

So there is very little walking to do once you've arrived. Although the entry road is very narrow for a couple of miles, so nervous drivers should avoid peak times.
