United Kingdom Cromer Pier.
This shot was taken during Storm Freya to the right of the pier which is in my opinion the best location to capture some stunning storm waves with the pier protruding to the left. That said, if you’ve a longer lens you can shoot from the top of the promenade.
Photography Tips
This shot was taken seconds before the wave almost took me and my kit out. I’d advise for storm photography to take plenty of waterproofs, warm clothing, and a clear cheap UV filter for your lens to protect it from salt water. Also, and while most cameras and lenses are sealed, take a waterproof covering to protect your kit from salt sprays. Swells in this area and wave heights are often unpredictable. Therefore don’t take chances. I’ve lived here for 45 years and know too well how unpredictable the North Sea is in this region. The weather can change quickly which you’ll see history plaques detailing these events around the town. It’s a super location for shooting storms but it can also be dangerous too.
Travel Information
Travel to Cromer by train or car. The beach is literally a ten minute walk from the train station. Plenty of hotels and bed and breakfasts around town. Check out our famous haunted hotel too.
