Located on Whitehall this shot was taken just in front of the royal horse guards that protect the king and escort him to parades.

Be prepared for a lot of people. Most of which are kind spirited, however; others can be obnoxious, rude, and aggressive. Two occasions this year I’ve encountered rude and aggressive locals and tourists that pushed me and my cameras out the way. It’s best to visit on a fairly warm day, preferably when the kids are at school. Horse Guards Parade is visited by several vloggers that hog the areas in front of the guards. I find a tall tripod, large camera with lens and the audio on usually moves them on. They are most annoying and do tend to film just for reactions. Pick pockets in the area operate, so keep your equipment in front of you at all times. Or use a burgen like me. Horse Guards close up shop at 4pm. Shoot in RAW and edit out any distractions if possible in post process. It’s quite easy though tedious at times. Shoot from all angles and try to shoot with the sun on the horses. Keep your shutter speed at a moderate count around 1/200 sec, ISO 100 and aperture around 7-8. Tripod is best. Don’t touch the horses, spook them, or enter the white boxes. No flash photography! At times I’ve found my flashing red camera light and audio can spook the horses therefore try not to spend too long in one location.

Horse guards is best accessed by foot using public transport.
