United Kingdom Rocks Kilchurn Castle, Loch Awe, Scotland
Kilchurn Castle is a ruined structure on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is a classic, easy photography location of a wonderful Highlands landmark and a historic monument.
Photography Tips
Tripod and long exposures. There are so many compositions so wait for the light to change to make the best use of this stunning and easy-to-access location. Use the rocks and stones for a nice foreground.
This spot is muddy as Hell, be sure to bring rubber boots! Standard zoom is fine. Unfortunately, there are Powerlines behind the castle which kills the medieval look a little bit.

Travel Information
Parking at 10 min walk for a few cars.
Turn off the A82 onto the A819. After approximately 500 metres, there is a layby for parking. Cross the field immediately opposite for the classic viewpoint and make your way to the edge of the Loch to find a composition.
Note that the field is extremely boggy in winter and springtime, and it is possible to sink almost to thigh level in some areas! Wellington boots are highly recommended and you should try to stay on the path which includes old crates / wooden pallets, and planks of wood.
