USA Kīlaue Viewing Spot
Official viewing spot to view the volcano. Walk down from the visitor centre to the lower parking lot for less crowded spots.
Photography Tips
Go here during the blue hour or on a clear day after dark for stars and MilkyWay. Even if active lava isn‘t boiling up there is an amazing glow.
Travel Information
Ideally stay on the Hilo side of the island and just drive into the Volcano National Park towards the museum. Then walk up to the crater rim. Daytrips from the Kona side are possible but plan for a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive.
