USA Kekaha Lookout, Kauai
This photo was taken from the Kekaha Lookout in Kauai, Hawaii. This spot is located on "highway" 550 a couple miles north of the town Waimea.
Photography Tips
This is an HDR photo compiled from 5 bracketed shots using Adobe Lightroom's HDR merge function. The details of the nominally exposed photo are shown below:
Camera: Nikon D7200
Lens: Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/50 sec.
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 8mm on a Nikon crop sensor. So about 12mm full frame.
Make sure to use a tripod, and consider a polarizing or ND filter as needed. Without an ND filter it's really difficult to shoot directly into the sun without severe clipping in the sky.
This area faces approximately west, sunset is the best time to snap a cool shot.

Travel Information
Kekaha Lookout is super easy to find and very convenient. Take highway 50 to the town of Waimea located in south eastern Kauai. Then turn on 550 and the lookout will be only a couple miles up the road. There exists a pull off area. During my visit it appeared to be a popular spot to view sunsets, with many locals making the trip.
Have fun and certainly be respectful to the many folks who wish to enjoy a peaceful sunset.
