USA Nu'Alolo Valley, Kauai

This photo was taken during a helicopter tour of Kauai, Hawaii. One of the best parts of the tour takes riders along the perimeter of the Napali Coast. However, the Nu'Alolo Valley is wide enough for helicopters to enter and we were able to fly around for some spectacular views.

For a helicopter tour such as this, the key is to use the widest lens possible. The details of the photo are below:
Camera: Nikon D7200
Lens: Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/60 sec
Aperture: f/8
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 8mm on a Nikon crop sensor. So about 12mm full frame.

I would also highly recommend to use a polarizing filter. You could probably lower the aperture value a little bit (i.e. open the aperture up) to reduce the shutter speed. A faster shutter speed will help improve sharpness lost resulting from the vibration and movement of the helicopter.

There are many different helicopter tours on Kauai... However I would recommend to choose the ONLY company which offers DOORS OFF flying experience. It's the best way to snap photos without the annoying glare on the windows. Also, it's freaking awesome flying around without doors!
